The Illuminae Files# 3 Title Reveal and Competition

I’m Back (just for a while):

Hey guys hope your all well. Long time no see I know. I’d like to say I have been busy reading or revising away for my upcoming A Level exams but I haven’t. To be honest I have just been lazy with life in general but I’m hoping to get back into a regular blogging routine once exams are done with.

Title Reveal:

ANYWAYS today I have great news for all Illuminae fans out there. The third book’s title has finally been revealed. *drum rolls*…..

Now I hope we can agree the colour of the cover will not be black but I am personally hoping for a spacey purple. Some say green, I guess that will look good too, Let me know in the comments section what colour you want it to be.

However there is some bad news before I get onto the competition section. Many of you may know that the original release date was Fall 2017 however the release date has now been pushed back to March 2018. All I can say to this is I hope it’s worth the 1 and 1/2 year wait. It better be. JOKES. But my expectations are really high for this finale.

So Jay Kristoff recently posted a block post on his blog announcing an epic competition. Just like he and Amie Kaufman did last time for Gemina, they are offering us fans the chance to have our names as part of the casualty list for Obsidio.Yayyy for being killed. Jokes…. NON SPOILER: Gemina by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff (The Illuminae Files #2) 5/5 Stars

TITLE: Gemina

AUTHOR: Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff

PUBLISHING DETAILS: October 20th 2016 by Oneworld Publications

PAGES: 672 pages

STARS: ★ ★ ★ ★ ★

Synopsis (Goodreads):

Moving to a space station at the edge of the galaxy was always going to be the death of Hanna’s social life. Nobody said it might actually get her killed.

Hanna is the station captain’s pampered daughter; Nik the reluctant member of a notorious crime family. But while the pair are struggling with the realities of life aboard the galaxy’s most boring space station, little do they know that Kady Grant and the Hypatia are headed right toward Heimdall, carrying news of the Kerenza invasion.

When an elite BeiTech strike team invades the station, Hanna and Nik are thrown together to defend their home. But alien predators are picking off the station residents one by one, and a malfunction in the station’s wormhole means the space-time continuum might be ripped in two before dinner. Soon Hanna and Nik aren’t just fighting for their own survival; the fate of everyone on the Hypatia—and possibly the known universe—is in their hands.

But relax. They’ve totally got this. They hope.

Writing Style:

The writing style for this series is totally unique. The story is told through a series of hack database files consisting of emails IM’s video transcript and journal entries it definitely makes the whole experience unique.

Character Development:

In the second book we are introduced to a new set of main characters: Hanna and Nik. At first I was a bit reluctant about having new characters but they were highly developed and fun to read about. Once again like Illuminae we have a badass heroine Hanna who added so much action to the story.

Sci-Fi: this time it’s set upon Jump station Heimdall which we know Kady and The Hypatia are heading towards, but if have the same sci-fi feel to it

Survival: Once again the maid characters have to battle it out to survive. There was a lot more intense action which got me holding my breath all the way

Overall thoughts:

I absolutely loved this book maybe even more than Illuminae. It was so much more intense and the plot twist(OMG). I am definably excited for the next book in the series which I know is a long away yet.

illuminaeTITLE: Illuminae (The Illuminae Files #1)

AUTHOR: Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff

PUBLISHING DETAILS: (UK) 22/10/2015 Rock the Boat

PAGES: 599

STARS: ★ ★ ★ ★ ★

Synopsis (Taken from Goodreads):

The year is 2575, and two rival mega corporations are at war over a planet that’s little more than an ice-covered speck at the edge of the universe. Too bad nobody thought to warn the people living on it. With enemy fire raining down on them, Kady and Ezra—who are barely even talking to each other—are forced to fight their way onto an evacuating fleet, with an enemy warship in hot pursuit.

But their problems are just getting started. A deadly plague has broken out and is mutating, with terrifying results; the fleet’s AI, which should be protecting them, may actually be their enemy; and nobody in charge will say what’s really going on. As Kady hacks into a tangled web of data to find the truth, it’s clear only one person can help her bring it all to light: the ex-boyfriend she swore she’d never speak to again.

Writing Style:

I think Illuminae is really known for its unique writing style. The story is told through a series of hacked databases making it so much fun and unique. There is a lot of really cool art work in here which makes it so much enjoyable to read. Despite being 600 pages the writing style means you can fly through this book quickly.

Character Development:

I found myself instantly attached to Kady and Ezra praying for them to be ok. We get to see a lot more of Kady as it is her who hacks into the database but both characters are really realistic with their individual personalities. We see Kady as she becomes really brave when she is forced to risk everything due to the war. Even the Artificial Intelligence system AIDEN seemed so real and at times made me so emotional.

The book is mainly a Sci-Fi book set hundreds of years into the future. This makes the book really technical which meant it can be a little hard to understand at first but once you get about 100 pages in it’s a real page turner. Survival is a huge theme. We see the extent the two protagonists go to save their loved ones in the midst of a huge interstellar war.

Overall thoughts:

I absolutely loved this book. This was the first time I ventured into the sci-fi genre and at first, I have to admit, it was hard to understand all the technical stuff but once I was into it I was turning pages like mad. So excited for the sequel.
